Marine biologist by training (PhD Napier University, Edinburgh, UK), but early on I realized that aquaculture was key to helping secure food supplies to the worlds’ poorest communities. Over the last 22 years, I have led and contributed to aquaculture-related research and capacity building programs in the UK, Europe (8+ countries), Belize, Tanzania, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, UK Overseas Territories, New Zealand and have received grants from the EU, UK Research and Innovation, Esméee Fairbairn Foundation and others. Currently, I coordinate a £6.2M program on seaweed cultivation (GlobalSeaweedSTAR) in developing countries and a €3.7M European Masters program in Aquaculture.
